Kitchen and cabinet refinishing

Cabinet Refinishing in Boerne, TX

We degrease, scuff sand, prime and spray the cabinets you already have, so your Boerne kitchen gets a factory-smooth finish without a teardown.

Family run since 1982 by Jesse Tellez and his son Isaac. Insured and bonded.

Refinish or replace

Refinish or replace? It comes down to the boxes.

Refinishing is the right call for some kitchens and the wrong one for others. This is how we tell them apart, and we say which one yours is.

Refinish what you have

Replace with new cabinets

Time in your kitchen

Doors and drawer fronts come off to be finished and go back on. The boxes are worked in place, so there is no demolition and nothing to wait on from a factory.

New cabinets are ordered, built and delivered before the old ones come out. Then come demolition, installation and fitting. It is the longer job, and the room is a worksite for most of it.

Disruption

Cabinets emptied, floors and counters covered, dust held in by masking. The sink, the stove and the plumbing stay connected and untouched.

Noise, dust and debris. The sink and plumbing are disconnected, and the countertops often have to be replaced or refitted along with the cabinets.

What changes and what does not

Changes: the color, the finish, the hardware, how the doors look and feel. Stays: the layout, the box sizes, the door style and any damage inside the boxes.

Changes: everything you choose to change, from the layout and door style to what is inside every box. Every one of those choices has to be made before anything is ordered.

What it suits

Solid boxes, a layout that works, and a color or finish you are tired of. A kitchen you like the shape of.

Water-damaged or sagging boxes, a layout that fights you, such as a fridge door that blocks a drawer, or a plan to change the footprint of the kitchen.

If your boxes are the problem, no coat of paint fixes them, and we will say so at the estimate.

How it works

What does cabinet refinishing involve in Boerne?

Cabinet refinishing is a complete finishing job on the cabinets already in your kitchen: they are cleaned, sanded, primed and sprayed, so the room changes without a teardown. In Boerne and across the Hill Country, that starts with degreasing, because kitchen cabinets carry a film of cooking grease that paint will not grip and that cheap jobs skip. A scuff sand follows, then a bonding primer that locks onto the old finish, then sprayed coats, which lay down smoother than any brush and give the factory look. Hardware comes off first and goes back on, reset or replaced, once the finish is dry. Doors and drawer fronts come off the boxes so they can be finished flat, and the boxes are masked and finished where they stand. Then the cabinets need time to cure before heavy use. Tellez & Sons Painting is a family business run by Jesse Tellez and his son Isaac, and has been painting homes since 1982.

Inside your home

What your kitchen looks like while we work

Four stages, in this order. Here is what you will see in the room at each one, and what we are doing while you see it.

  1. Stage 1

    Doors off and labelled

    What you see

Doors and drawer fronts numbered and stacked, the boxes open, floors and counters covered.

    What we are doing

Mapping each door to its opening so it goes back where it came from, bagging the hardware, and degreasing every surface. Cooking leaves a film on kitchen cabinets, and this is the step a cheap job leaves out.

  2. Stage 2

    Boxes masked and sanded

    What you see

Paper and plastic over counters, floors and appliances. The cabinet boxes stay exactly where they are.

    What we are doing

Scuff sanding the boxes in place with the dust controlled, then a bonding primer that grips the old finish.

  3. Stage 3

    Spraying

    What you see

Doors and drawer fronts laid flat to dry, the boxes sprayed behind the masking. No brush strokes anywhere.

    What we are doing

Spraying the finish coats instead of brushing them. A sprayed coat lays down flat and even, which is how a cabinet gets a factory-smooth surface.

  4. Stage 4

    Rehanging

    What you see

Doors back in their own openings, hardware set, the masking off and the work area cleaned up.

    What we are doing

Aligning every door, checking every drawer, and fitting your hardware or the new pulls you chose. Then the finish needs time to cure: go gently, with no scrubbing and no heavy loading, until we say it is ready.

I needed the inside of my kitchen, including my cabinets, painted in a rental property. They did an amazing job! Everything looks great and the workers were clean, professional, and super friendly. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Questions

Cabinet refinishing questions, answered

The things people ask before we start on their kitchen.

What affects the cost of cabinet refinishing in Boerne?

Cost follows the size of the job: how many doors, drawer fronts and boxes there are, how much grease or damage the surfaces carry, the finish you choose, and whether hardware is reset or replaced. Kitchens vary too much for a number you could trust without seeing the cabinets, so we quote after looking at them.

How long will my kitchen be out of use?

Less than in a remodel, because the sink, stove and plumbing are not part of the job and nothing is disconnected. What you lose is the cabinets: they are emptied before we start, and doors and drawer fronts are off while they are sprayed. The length depends on the number of doors and coats, and we plan it with you at the estimate.

Do the cabinet doors leave my house?

Doors and drawer fronts come off the boxes and are finished flat, because a flat door sprays smoother than one hanging on a hinge. The boxes stay in your kitchen, masked and sanded in place. Whether the doors are sprayed at your home or off site depends on the kitchen, and we agree it with you at the estimate.

How durable are refinished cabinets, and how do I clean them?

A sprayed finish over cabinets that were degreased, sanded and primed holds up to daily kitchen use. Give it time to cure before heavy use, then clean with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Skip scouring pads and harsh solvents, and wipe grease splashes by the stove before they sit. We tell you when the finish is ready to be loaded.

Can you refinish any wood species or existing finish?

Most solid wood and previously painted cabinets can be refinished. Prep changes with what is there: open-grain wood like oak keeps its grain under paint unless it is filled first, which is a choice we go over with you, and glossy or damaged finishes need more sanding. Boxes swollen by water are a replace job, and we say so.

How do I get a cabinet refinishing estimate in Boerne?

Use the Get a Free Quote button or call us. Tell us roughly what the kitchen is like, and we look over the cabinets with you and say plainly whether refinishing or replacing suits them. Estimates are free. We serve Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch and the Hill Country around them.
